Case Details On Monday, November 11, 2002, at around 7 a.m., the body of a male fetus, with the placenta attached to the umbilical cord, was discovered at the Middle Smithfield Waste Water Treatment Center on Route 209. It is believed that the child may have come from the Fern Wood Resort area since gravity carries waste water from the resort to the treatment center. All of the other areas utilizing the treatment plant require pumping stations that likely would have destroyed the fetus.
