Case Details
In December 2010, James Rubino was staying in a tiny basement apartment on S. Wyoming Street in Hazleton and working for the man who owned the property, a man he'd worked for, for some 10 years prior to his disappearance.
When exactly James was last seen is unknown.  His sister, who lives in New Jersey, became concerned when she didn't hear from him over the holidays.  She tried calling James, but no one answered the phone and the answering machine didn't pick up the call.  She next called James' landlord, who informed her that James was missing.  The landlord said he assumed James had gone to visit his sister over the holidays.  The sister then filed a missing persons report.
A neighbor of James told police she last saw him during the second week of December and commented that he wasn't dressed for the cold weather.
On Wednesday, January 2, 2011, Hazleton police and Pennsylvania State Police forensic officers searched the basement apartment, removing several objects from the property.  They also entered a neighboring house owned by the same landlord.
James had moved from New Jersey to Pennsylvania 25 years before he went missing, but he always kept in touch with his sister, especially during the holiday season.  A bit of a loner, he had few friends but no known enemies.  He didn't own a car and generally patronized businesses close to his home.  It would be totally out of character for him to just take off without making some kind of contact with his sister.
