Case Details

Shamari Taylor was last seen at around 11 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2006.  He was driving in the 7600 block of Woodbine Avenue in the Overbrook Park neighborhood of West Philadelphia when a van stopped in front of the car he was driving.  A group of individuals, 8 or 10 men, jumped out of the van, handcuffed and blindfolded Shamari and his female companion and forced them both into the van.

According to the female, they were taken to a warehouse where she could hear Shamari being tortured and begging for his life.  The female was released several hours later, at around 5 am, in North Philadelphia.  She did not contact police until around 5 pm Sunday afternoon.

In a related incident, at around 7pm on that Sunday, two men, who may have had a key, entered Shamari's home.  They shot both his mother and sister, then proceeded to ransack Shamari's room and left the residence with a significant amount of cash.

Shamari is the son of Rep. John Myers (D-Philadelphia) from a previous relationship.  Rep Myers has advocated gun control but the incidents are not believed to be connected to him.

One man, Kenneth Tuck, was arrested in connection with the crimes surrounding Shamari's disappearance.  Mr Tuck was tried on charges of kidnapping, robbery and conspiracy.  His first trial ended in a hung jury.  He was aquitted at his second trial.  Mr Tuck maintains his innocence.

Shamari Taylor has never been found and is presumed to have been murdered.
